Ridiculous number of dreams

Posted in Anime and Manga, Life on July 1st, 2010 by Sebastian – Be the first to comment

I’ve always wanted to wake up from a long night and remember what dreams I’ve had.

However, in this case, I remember a few. One involved me running away from teh cops for something or another and man did I do a fine job with help from some awesome other people. (It involved waiting for a cop to pull us over and get out of the car, speeding into a turn at the intersection and then cutting across a grass intersection to go the other direction haha… It also involved rogues, help from an unlikely source, and pretty much the plot of any getaway scene).

And wow, I already forgot the second dream haha.

In other news, Woot was bought by Amazon :P Oh and Naruto hit 500.

Fullmetal Alchemist and a chapter of my childhood

Posted in Anime and Manga, Life on June 10th, 2010 by Sebastian – Be the first to comment

Haha. So I wrote this on Facebook, but it rings true for everything.

One of my childhood anime/manga TV shows ended today. The manga Fullmetal Alchemist (鋼の錬金術師), one of the first anime/mangas I ever read ended today with a blast.

And like many endings, this one gave me pause to consider a few things. I pondered the impact this series had on my life and I can gleam a few things from it.

It was the first time I noticed censorship in any medium that affected me. See, when I was younger, I had heard about things such as censorship and considered a terribly thing done decades ago. I basically thought it was history that no longer applied. Fullmetal Alchemist’s censored releases in the United States gave me definitive pause and really made me realize censorship and other terrible things still occurred in ways that affected me directly.

Well that’s it for now. I can say definitively, that having the firefox homepage be the blog page seems to do me some good.

It’s been a year :)

Posted in Anime and Manga, Games, General-Random, Life, Magic on January 8th, 2010 by Sebastian – Be the first to comment

I told myself that I’d keep a blog starting this past year with all my thoughts. And well, I’ve done it! And although this post was originally supposed to have been posted a week ago, Strep throat and New Years activities disagreed with that time table.

So here are some statistics. I have 88 posted blog posts with 15 additional blog posts saved on an external from South Kore (they’ll be posted eventually). This blog is now over a year old.

Things that have happened since I started this blog:

Obama became president, I graduated high school, I got into Yale College, I went to Korea, I started playing poker, the PureMTGO Freed from the Real podcast was started (and is still going strong), Haruhi season 2 started and ended (I’m currently on episode 12. Started yesterday haha), I moved my reachable address to Yale, Facebook had privacy issues, Twitter still has no business model (and may never), with Avatar, the 3D medium of watching movies has become more readily accepted, and I turned 18.

These are a variety of things that happened and honestly, there are more things that happened than that even. Anthony Platon got a girlfriend for example. I severed ties with some of my high school friends (tis the college process I suppose). Taylor Swift became really big. So much happened this past year and more the past decade.

So now, what’s on my mind going forward? Well, I’ve been watching hours of Haruhi on the plane back to Yale so my one resolution is to for as much as possible follow this:

“Feelings of love are just a temporary lapse in judgment. Like a kind of mental illness.”

That’s forefront in my mind right now. I feel like my search for happiness and love is getting in the way of progress. So enough of that. Back to the hard rigor of life.

Not sure if there’s anything else really. One change I’d like to announce is that my hosting has changed from Vlexo to VlexoFree. These guys have always been amazing to me and continue to be.

I’d really like to send a New Years thanks to my good friend Erik Friborg. Without him, the Freed from the Real podcast would not be in existence right now. I’m really glad that he agreed to do the podcast with me because as a result I not only saw the creation of a podcast, I also gained an invaluable friend in him.

Also shoutouts to AJ (the necessary British character), Mike Janssen (thanks for all the technical help and filling in time to time. Also congrats on your marriage man), and Joshua Claytor (who despite having yet been on the podcast, continues to give his full support).

I’ll have a thank you post soon (I think).

Happy New Year

Krishna, the captain of Science Bowl at Granada Hills, is also an amazing singer. Here’s a link to the song he made as part of his final project for our AP Physics C class in Mr. Van’s K-2.

Enjoy. It’s good stuff. MP3 link coming soon.

EDIT: Here’s the link to download an MP3 version of the song. Download it here.

They finally said it!

Updated Twitter Feeds and the Anime Manga List

Posted in Anime and Manga, General-Random, Magic on April 14th, 2009 by Sebastian – Be the first to comment

This post is mostly about updates to what’s available on this blog, so if you’re not interested, then don’t mind this post.

First and foremost, you’ll notice that there are two twitter feeds on the right side of the blog now. The first one continues to be the twitter feed that I personally use (twitter username: runeliger). The second one however, is a twitter feed for the PureMTGO staff (twitter username: puremtgodotcom). I got an e-mail earlier today to twitter my magic happenings in that twitter when I can, so I guess I will. Anyway, both feeds are awesome and everyone should follow them!

The Anime/Manga list that I’m putting up (the first installment is going up as I type this up) looks to take a bit longer to compile than I originally anticipated. I’ve just read a lot more manga and watched a lot more anime than previously thought. I’m currently writing them down as I remember them in my moleskine, so progress is slow… but occuring!

That’s this update. Freed from the Real #10 is up on pureMTGO.com if you want to check it out, and there’s a special treat for all those listeners out there if they tune in on Friday… *hint hint*

Anime/Manga List

Posted in Anime and Manga on April 14th, 2009 by Sebastian – Be the first to comment

So I’ve decided in order to keep up with the list of animes and mangas I watch/read that having a separate page with the ones I’m reading and have finished available on this website.  So if you look at the top of the blog now, you’ll see the new Anime/Manga List page and it’ll slowly be updated as I remember what I’ve read and what I’m reading!

I’m also going to write a Full Metal Alchemist review every week, making up for the two episodes I missed starting soon (very soon).

It’s going to be good fun.

Scares, Beasts, Gundams, and More!

Posted in Anime and Manga, General-Random on February 10th, 2009 by Sebastian – Be the first to comment

What a scary e-mail I got over the weekend. My host, Vlexo Hosting (you can see the link for them at the very bottom next to the copyrights) sent out an extremely ominous e-mail about backing up my website and about how they may close. Fortunately, the owner came back from a long hiatus to report apologies for not being online (apparently when you leave the internet, some of your subscriptions may expire :P ). So I’m safe.

Lamar Odom beasted and has been beasting since Bynum went down. As a result, the Lakers are looking as strong as they were with Bynum. One thing though. Can’t Odom beast when Bynum is playing? I understand that his minutes are down slightly, but I don’t see it as being by that much. It seems feasible he could beast with Bynum, making the Lakers nigh unstoppable (one can dream).

Heroes and  Gundam 00… spoilers ahead! Jump to the more if you want to see this revelation. read more »

Notes on Gundam 00

Posted in Anime and Manga on January 27th, 2009 by Sebastian – Be the first to comment

First and foremost, let’s get a few things out of the way.

Coup d’état are BAD!
Even though the anime for two or so episodes has been trying to justify their existence through legitimacy via corruption, there is no such thing as a justifiable coup. Successful coups involve the people, and not just trying to open their eyes. Considering the information control that was in place prior to the coup, it was no surprise that they would inevitably used to further the corruption of the government. The correct way that Hercules should have pursued would have been to take pictures himself, get the information, and leak it to the media. That way, like other international scandals, the press can have a field day.

Secondly, Yuna Ito’s “Trust You” IS SUCH AN AMAZING SONG!! I’ve had it on loop for long periods of time (hours on end) almost everyday. It’s just that good. I mean, I really liked the old ED, but I can’t wait for the full version of this song to come out. For those of you who don’t know Yuna Ito, she’s a half-Japanese half-Korean American born in my hometown of Los Angeles. Growing up in Hawaii, she became a Japanese pop and R&B singer. She was in the Nana movie as a vocalist, which was where I first saw her (yes I saw the Nana movie -.- It wasn’t really a choice).

She has an amazing voice :D .

Other than that, I’m somewhat disappointed that Setsuna was neutered so early on in the series (we have 10 episodes left). That said, I have a feeling that his injury will incompassitate him for a couple of episodes to shorten the amount of time he’s unable to kill people in (which happens to almost every main character of a Gundam series).

Lastly, I’m glad that Gundam 00 has advanced the “enemy” to a whole new level of awesome. Instead of just having 1 Super amazing destroy all weapon, they have 2!

Gundam 00 has truly raised the bar heh.
